The Economic Development Planning sessions to be held June 24-27, 2019 across the state. As recently announced by Governor Mills, we are embarking on the creation of a ten-year strategic plan. Her vision is to see Maine known as a national leader for its forward-looking work in creating a diverse and sustainable economy. We will empower innovators and entrepreneurs, attract young families and new businesses and revitalize rural Maine so that every person will know unequivocally that living in Maine means not only an unmatched quality of life, but an unmatched opportunity for good-paying jobs in innovative industries across the entire state.
Three synergistic strategic goals have been set to realize the Governor's Vision. They are:
Drive the value-added contribution/job from $87,160/job in 2018 to Y1 in 2030 while protecting Maine's quality of life.
Equitably grow the annual median wage/job from $31,550 to Y2 by 2030.
Grow the workforce from 700,000 to Y3 by 2030 (1,2,3 Target Y to be set by DECD after further economic research.)
The sessions are structured to collect feedback on the barriers that would prevent attainment of the goals and brainstorm the potential solutions. We will present background information explaining why these goals are important, and then break out into smaller work teams that will consider the regional, practical and cultural issues we must manage. The results will be collected and assessed by a standing Strategic Working Team that has been formed by the Department of Economic and Community Development to write the final plan.
