HISTORY:
The Westbrook Mill is where the history of Sappi Fine Paper North America began with the S.D. Warren Company in 1854. It is the site of the first coated papermaking facility in the U.S. and developed a reputation for quality and innovation. The town of Westbrook is also home to the North America Technology Center Research and Development facility.
This facility is equipped with two state-of-the-art pilot coaters that enable prototype development for both coated fine papers and specialty release paper business. Past and present employees of the Technology Center are the proud developers of over 200 patents that have helped Sappi and the customers we serve maintain a competitive edge for years.
Today, the mill is primarily a production facility for specialty release papers and films, a business that continues to exemplify the mill's tradition of innovation.
