Thank you for joining the Manufacturers Association of Maine!!

MAMe Business Services Division:
The BSD Management team met with the federal delegation representatives in Augusta to present an overview of services provided to manufacturing members. Representatives with Senator Snowe, Senator Collins, Congressman Michaud and Congresswomen Pingree attended to gain a better understanding of what MAMe offers to the manufacturing sector. We reviewed the Business Growth Services (BGS) program and emphasized that we do not “sell” services but listen to the needs of the sector and respond with the right solution for the customer. We also shared the launching of the Maine Industry Partnership Initiative—an education and training, data and demand driven strategy for manufacturing, MAMe’s cluster initiatives and the Compliance Plus Program that is being designed for implementation. Expectations from the event were met! We want to thank all that attended!
The MAMe Business Services Division:
Business Growth Services (BGS) Every day, members contact MAMe for business services. These requests are turned over to the BGS consulting network to understand what is keeping the company awake at night. Each and every company are visited to understand the scope is need (BGS does NOT sell services!!) The BGS network are working on projects for members including new owner company strategic planning, ITAR registrations, grant writing, ISO and more…if you have a need for business services, please call MAMe at 854-2153 or email Info@mainemfg.com Remember, the private sector creates wealth….

Maine Industry Partnership Initiative/Sector Development:  "
The Manufacturers Roundtable for Education and Training". The MAMe Education Committee has formed a Roundtable of companies to devise a plan to market manufacturing and jobs in Maine. Led by MAMe, the roundtable will focus on strategies of statewide marketing with jobs emphasis. The Roundtable will convene on July 21 at MAMe.

Compliance Plus Program: The Compliance Plus Program design team have been working to finalize the Compliance Plus Program strategy. Using the BGS model, the Compliance services will assist members on how to become and sustain compliance within the company. Training and direct assistance for members will be available soon.

Business Insurance Services:
MAMe Paradigm health plan will host two sessions this month in Auburn and Sanford. July 20 session will be held at AVGOC in Auburn and July 21 at The Baker Company in Sanford. If you are a member and want to learn more, please call MAMe to register for one of the upcoming session.

Member Services:
For several years, MAMe has supported Pre-Paid Legal Services as a benefit to offer our members. Although we continue to support the program, MAMe has severed ties with the PPL associate effective immediately. Please call if you have any questions regarding your PPL program.

Cluster/Sector Development:
MAMe has been busy with assessing the manufacturing sector for a number of cluster activities including the alternative energy survey and the medical device manufacturing cluster survey. Both these survey data results will formulate plans to assist the industries with business development activities, training, certifications and overall business needs. The newest cluster to emerge from the Manufacturing Summit is the RF/Wireless Communication/Electronics industry. We will begin developing training for the industry members and work with the universities to address education gaps.

MEAA News

MEAA Newsletter 7/13/11

MAMe Association and MEAA is teaming with the Maine International Trade Center, for their Fall Trade Mission (Nov. 13th-19th, 2011) to South America, specifically Brazil and Chile. The mission will focus on business opportunities in Aerospace with additional opportunities available in: Energy – Electrical Generation, Oil & Gas Production, Alternative Energy; Biotechnology and Medical Equipment and High Technology – Information & Communications Technologies, Safety & Security, Hazardous Waste/Water Treatment/Pollution Control.

The Aerospace market is Latin America is one of the three positive global growth markets and the US is ripe for export opportunities based on the current global economy and the value of the dollar. Embraer Air will be one of the companies we will have an opportunity to meet with. Embraer Air produces small efficient jets for a market that is expected to see demand for more than 7500 jets over the next 20 years (MITC data). Embraer Air is also considering developing a new aircraft see excerpt below:

“A bolder move would be to develop a brand-new aircraft, a step seen as more likely by Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst Ronald J. Epstein. “With a strong Rolodex derived from its E-Jets, Embraer has a unique opportunity to launch a new niche product,” he says. Yet another option would be for Embraer to team up with a large partner. Boeing CEO James McNerney told Aviation Week last month that his company remains open to partnering with Embraer on an aircraft project in the segment below 125 seats.” (Taken from ATA Smart Brief and Aviation Daily).

Prattt & Whitney Tooling in Connecticut is currently contacting our members. They are interested the skills that several of our members have to offer. Other opportunities currently underway for MEAA members include Herber Aircraft Service Inc., Jet Parts Engineering, Inc.. These leads were derived through R. Grich attending the MRO Show in Miami in April. He is currently exploring additional leads derived from this show.

What direction do you want to see the MEAA take in the next year? E-mail Rich Grich with your input: meaa@mainemfg.com
