In Memoriam

David Twomey, 1934-2012
Dave Twomey, a 2006 Maine Metal Products Association Hall of Fame Inductee, passed away on February 4, 2012.
Dave was an owner of Prescott Metal and in 1967, built the facility on Route 1 in Biddeford where it currently stands.
Our prayers and thoughts to the Twomey family from the Manufacturers Association of Maine staff, Board and members.

Cameron Flow Controls Tour Meeting

We'd like to extend our sincere thanks to Cameron Flow Controls for hosting the February 2012 Monthly Tour meeting. Members and guests joined the MAMe/JMQC for a great evening of information and tour of the 6,000 ft shop located in Limerick. Keith Pierrotti, Plant Manager began with an overview of the company’s engineering of the actuators and gears designed and machined at Cameron, Tom West, owner of Limerick Machine and partner with Cameron showed the attendees the Maxtorquetm designs by Cameron Flow Controls. MaxTorque (engineered gear operators) was acquired and added as the MAXTORQUE product line from Drilling & Production Systems in 2009. The overview included Cameron's Flow Control division markets surface and subsea chokes, quarter-turn and linear actuators, gears, devises, and safety systems under the CAMERON® , DYNATORQUETM, LEDEEN®, MAXTORQUETM, TESTTM and WILLIS® brand names. Additionally, FLC provides project management, system engineering, operability and training. The attendees toured the shop where Cameron manufactures products for the Navy.

What's New in the Maine Aerospace Alliance (MEAA)

The MEAA will host a NASA Symposium in Maine on May 23rd. NASA representatives from Washington DC and Marshall Space Flight Center will present “Doing Business with NASA” and they are bringing 8-10 Primary suppliers to NASA with them to meet with MEAA members. More information to come.

Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) 2011-2012

Judging for the RWDC is underway. The judging will be completed on Feb. 22nd with the state winner submitted to the national competition on Feb. 23rd. Check out the RWDC web site for more information. http://www.realworlddesignchallenge.org/

SMCC Professional Education Continuing Studies Courses

Open Welding Booth Time
This course is designed to provide the beginner or intermediate welder booth time for shielded metal arc welding and cutting. The course will be valuable to welders as a refresher or to the home hobbyist. It will also be beneficial for students going into a welding program or any occupation that requires welding skills.
